Phil is a mortgage broker and lifelong car enthusiast who has personally shipped numerous vehicles over the years — and experienced firsthand just how broken the auto transport industry's trust infrastructure is. After too many encounters with unverifiable carriers and zero transparency at pickup, he decided to build the tool that should have existed all along.
"I've shipped numerous cars and it was always a little scary with the seller or dealership just leaving the car with a random driver. Many times the car showed up on a different trailer than what it was picked up with, or the enclosed trailer it was transported in was a complete mess, holes in the roof and all. Things that a vetted carrier wouldn't have."

HaulBadge pulls live data directly from the FMCSA federal database and combines it with two additional data sources: an online reputation scan across review and complaint platforms, and HaulBadge's own verified carrier database.
Results are displayed as a clear Green / Yellow / Red signal. Green means the carrier has active authority and no major red flags. Yellow means there are factors worth investigating before proceeding. Red means the carrier has critical issues — inactive authority, fraud flags, or other serious concerns — and you should not ship your vehicle with them under any circumstances.
HaulBadge also detects double brokering risk — when a company with carrier authority only is acting as an illegal broker — and flags broker-only entities so customers know to also verify the assigned carrier before pickup.
A pickup verification sheet is a shareable, printable document generated for a specific carrier and a specific load. It is designed to be sent to whoever is releasing a vehicle — a car owner, dealer, or lot manager — so they have all the information they need before the driver arrives.
Each sheet includes the carrier's verified credentials, a QR code that pulls live data and cannot be faked, step-by-step release instructions, and a unique session ID that ties it to one specific load. Multiple shipments for the same carrier are never confused because each generated sheet has its own unique identifier.
The vehicle condition photo feature lets the person releasing the vehicle upload up to 6 timestamped photos — front, rear, both sides, interior, and miscellaneous — directly from their phone before the vehicle is picked up. These photos are stored securely and tied permanently to that specific pickup, protecting both parties in any damage dispute after delivery.
For auto transport carriers and brokers, HaulBadge offers a free full verification process. Verified carriers have their insurance COI reviewed by our AI system — checking coverage type, amounts, and expiry — their government-issued ID confirmed, and their FMCSA authority validated.
Once verified, carriers receive a unique HaulBadge ID, a trust score out of 100, and a QR code to present to customers at every pickup. When a customer scans the QR code, they instantly see the driver's verified identity, insurance status, DOT number, and trust score. The QR code pulls live data every time it is scanned — it cannot be forged or reused from a different carrier.
Verification is completely free for carriers. HaulBadge monitors insurance and ID expiry and will alert carriers before their verified status lapses, keeping their trust score current.
Verifying a carrier once is a snapshot. HaulBadge carrier tracking is continuous compliance monitoring — the moving picture. Pro and Broker users save any carrier to a tracking list, and HaulBadge automatically re-checks federal authority status, FMCSA active/inactive status, and HaulBadge verification health for every tracked carrier every single day in the background. This is real, automated daily monitoring, not on-demand lookup. The system runs on a scheduled cron job at 14:00 UTC daily and writes every status change to an audit log with timestamps.
When something changes — a carrier's federal operating authority is revoked, their FMCSA status flips to inactive, their reputation signal moves to Yellow or Red, or their HaulBadge verified status is suspended due to expired insurance or ID — HaulBadge sends an instant real-time email alert the same day, automatically, with no user action required. Every Monday morning, a clean weekly summary digest recaps the current status of every tracked carrier so brokers, dealers, and dispatchers always know the health of their preferred carrier list at a glance.

How HaulBadge actually works
Every DOT or MC search pulls live data from three independent sources: the FMCSA federal database (operating authority, status, fleet, registration), an online reputation scan across BBB / Google / FleetSeek / complaint platforms, and HaulBadge's internal verified carrier database. Results combine into a single Green / Yellow / Red signal.
Yes. HaulBadge explicitly flags companies with carrier authority only that are illegally acting as brokers, and flags broker-only entities so customers know to also verify the actual carrier assigned to their load before pickup.
Yes, HaulBadge analyzes insurance documents using AI. When a carrier uploads their Certificate of Insurance (COI), HaulBadge extracts structured data — coverage types, coverage amounts, named insured, policy number, and expiry date — and validates against industry minimum requirements. The same AI extraction runs on government-issued ID documents during identity verification.
Every HaulBadge verified carrier gets a unique QR code linked to their public verification page (haulbadge.com/verify/HB-XXXXXX). When scanned, the page pulls live data every single time — current FMCSA status, current insurance status, current trust score. The QR code cannot be faked, screenshotted, or reused from another carrier, because the verification page always shows real-time data.
Initial verification is a thorough one-time check, but compliance is then monitored continuously. HaulBadge automatically re-checks insurance expiry and ID expiry every day for every verified carrier. Carriers receive automated reminders 30 days before insurance expires and 60 days before ID expires. Verified status is automatically suspended when insurance or ID expires, and automatically restored when updated documents are uploaded.
